Testing of Wide Angle Lenses for Low Light / Night Photography

My interest in Landscape and starry night photography has prompted me to compare a number of wide angle lenses for their performance characteristics. As is usual in photography, a best lens selection requires weighing a number of trades based on the importance to you of each characteristic. However, I did become so bold as to crown an overall single best lens for this use. The page can be found under the tools tab at the very top of this page.

New Image Galleries Added

I have uploaded several new Image Galleries to the Galleries Page (click at the top of this page).

Included are many images from the Northwest U.S. road trip (see the travel log). The new Galleries are “Painted Hills” from the John Day Fossil Beds near Mitchel, Oregon; “ Palouse” from the abstract landscapes around the Eastern side of Washington State; and “Northwest” which is a collection of mostly single images from favorite stops on our trip. Also, just to catch up, I  added  “Butterflys and flowers”, “Ducks and Geese”, High-Key Birds in Flight” and “Sea Scapes”.  I hope you enjoy these new images.

Gallery 86 Art Show for February-March

Ron is one of the artist hosted at Gallery 86 this month.  The theme for February is “New Work from Local Artist”.  I have three pieces in the show.  First is a large gallery wrap of “Mesa Glow” which can be viewed in the National Parks Gallery on this web site.  Next is a smallish “Maroon Bells Reflection” which is similar to, but different from the Maroon Bells images in the NP Gallery on this web site.  Finally, something new for me, a group of 6x6” square format images on resin covered baltic birch boxes.  The images are from my shapes and patterns collection.  Being covered in transparent resin gives a completey different appearance to these images.  I had to choose some images that looked good in the square format, and the process took a bit of development to get it working.  I think you will like the result!  Thanks are owed to Terry Siewert for helping me develop this idea.

Artist of the Month

Ron is artist of the month at Mahogany House Gallery,  Frog Level, Waynesville, NC  for the Month of December.

A special collection of framed prints are on the columns in the Studio Section of the Gallery. The images are diverse, including bears, birds and landscapes.  Landscapes are both local to Western North Carolina and from the Western US.  The Gallery opens at 10 am tuesday - saturday, and opens at 1 pm on Sunday.

Ron's Photo Galleries -- Ready to View

I am putting up photo Galleries of some of my best images in subjects that are now, or have been an interest of mine.  I'm combing my personal collections as time permits. The Galleries will all be listed on the "Galleries" page of my site, and I will post to this blog when there is a new entry. You can follow the updates with an RSS feed.  You can post your reaction to any of the Galleries in this Blog.  The web site is still under construction, but four initial galleries are live now.
